Where does love begin its way,
does it come at night or light of day?
Does it find us when we’re standing still,
or cross our path against our will?

Sometimes love is almost there,
a gentle touch, a moment shared.
And just when both our hearts believe,
it turns around and starts to leave.

You cannot hold it in your hand,
or make it stay at your command.
For love will wilt when held too tight,
but given room, it finds its light.

So let your heart become its home,
but never cage its need to roam.
Let love be close, yet still be free,
and let it grow beside your dreams.

Let it guide you down the road,
but never make you bear its load.
For love should add to who you are,
not dim your light or hide your star.

And when it comes, then let it play,
let laughter steal your cares away.
Be foolish sometimes, dance awhile,
for love looks beautiful in a smile.

Yet love will not be joy alone,
sometimes its hardest face is shown.
There will be tears and sleepless nights,
and days when wrong outweighs the right.

But love is living, love must breathe,
it cannot blossom if we squeeze.
It moves like water through the land,
too wild for any human hand.

And if one day it flows away,
don’t dam the creek and make it stay.
For water travels where it must,
and loving sometimes means we trust.

Perhaps that love will circle round,
and someday find familiar ground.
Or maybe love will come anew,
with different eyes that look at you.

For love may leave, but love’s not gone,
the river of the heart flows on.
And somewhere farther down the stream,
it finds another place to dream.

So open wide your heart and see— By J Jones

love only stays when it is free.
And though the one you loved may go,
love always finds a way to flow.
